BETH GRUNSCHEL, MD, ScM

I am a Yale-trained Psychiatrist double-boarded in Adult and Addiction Psychiatry as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine. Prior to attending Jefferson Medical School, I received an ScB and then ScM in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University. Notable clinical background includes work at Yale Student Mental Health, providing psychiatric care to undergraduate and graduate students. While there, I served as the Coordinator for Substance Use Treatment, providing outreach and intervention for students identified with needs for substance use treatment. Additionally, I have worked at Connecticut Mental Health Center, a state mental health facility, as well as having spent about a decade caring for Veterans in the VA-Connecticut Healthcare System.

While serving as Chief Resident of Education during Yale Psychiatry Residency, and while employed as Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale School of Medicine (YSM) and Yale School of Nursing, I served in several leadership and educator positions. Notably, as Co-chair of the Pain Curriculum Committee at YSM, I collaborated with specialists from primary care, neurology, anesthesiology, health psychology, etc. to develop strong medical education in biopsychosocial approaches to the management of chronic pain. I have taken great pleasure in supervising medical students and psychiatric residents in developing their clinical skills, guiding the development of their bedside manner, interviewing techniques and approach. I continue to supervise psychodynamic psychotherapy in the Psychiatry Residency at Yale.
